Sudden Darkness was an unlucky speed and thrash metal band from the Rhine-Neckar area. The status of „local heroes“ stuck with them, because the LP „Fear Of Reality“, recorded in 1988, simply did not appear for GAMA Records. The original line-up split up and bassist Guido Holzmann and drummer Neudi continued with a new singer and guitarist. Instead of transforming the frustration into even harder music, the new line-up (with „real vocalist“) showed an irrepressible creativity, which not only resulted in a new band name, but also in a new style, which united almost every aspect of 80s heavy metal. In 1984 the debut „New Built Ghetto Status“ was released at Massacre/Intercord. It received very good reviews and reached four-digit sales figures. On the other hand it caused problems for the press and also for some metal fans. Until today there is no other group that sounds like Economist. Therefore it is logical that even a description of the style is difficult. „Psycho Metal“ is what the band called their music. In a certain way you can hear a certain closeness of style to Anacrusis, Damn The Machine, Voivod, but also Black Sabbath. A second album („Mind Movies“, 1995) remained unreleased and can be heard for the first time in full length on this double CD. Today, after 25 to 30 more years of heavy metal history, both discs are easier to understand and make exactly the sense that many fans did not recognize 2 to 3 decades ago. Some musicians from Economist later appeared in well-known acts like Manilla Road, Roxxcalibur, Savage Grace, Century, Viron, Jameson Raid and Trance.
