Originally released in the summer of 1982, less than a year after the appearance of their debut album 'Rock Until You Drop' (itself hailed as "the best album to emerge out of the NWOBHM since Saxon's 'Wheels Of Steel'..."), 'Wiped Out' saw Raven put the pedal to the metal and crank up the velocity. The Newcastle-based trio - bassist/vocalist John Gallagher, his guitarist brother Mark and drummer Rob Hunter - took the template of that first album and this time pushed everything to the maximum: the opening track 'Faster Than The Speed Of Light' just about said it all. Recording and mixing the album in just six or seven long days focussed the musicians' attention and, although they were already becoming increasing dissatisfied with the facilities at Neat Records' Impulse Studios, the result was an LP that was more cohesive than its predecessor, and also more extravagant; the experience gained since the band had recorded their first album shone through in tracks like 'Fire Power', 'To The Limit / To The Top' and the manic 'Live At the Inferno'. And with fifteen songs put to tape it was decided to hive three cuts off for a supporting EP, featuring 'Crash Bang Wallop' as the lead track. This release features the original album, as well as the three songs unique to the 'Crash Bang Wallop' EP and an outtake version of the finger-knotting instrumental '20/21'.
