The Royal & Derngate Theatres in Northampton announce beautiful new charity compilation album featuring new works by seminal musicians in accompaniment to dramatic monologues delivered by some of the world’s most celebrated stage and screen actors.
The record includes music by White Lies, Guy Chambers and These New Puritans; Oscar, Emmy and Grammy award winning film composers Rachel Portman OBE and Anne Dudley; leading opera composers Orlando Gough and Jessica Walker, British Bhangra pioneer Kuljit Bhamra MBE, ground-breaking classical and electronic composers Isobel Waller-Bridge and Valgeir Sigur?sson, pioneering rock musicians James Johnston and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, sound designer Donato Wharton and 2020 Ivor Novello Award winner Renell Shaw. The musicians worked alongside dramatic masters such as Judi Dench, Amanda Seyfriend, Felicity Jones, Giles Terera MBE, Dame Patricia Routledge, James Norton, Sharon D Clarke MBE, Lesley Sharp, Stephen Fry, Indira Varma, Maxine Peake and Sir Simon Russell Beale.
To launch the project, White Lies’ offer their prologue to Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, featuring Amanda Seyfried (listen in full here). The music lilts by on a gentle, yearning piano melody that embodies the heat, dust and quiet desperation of Tennessee Williams' plantation on the Mississippi Delta in 1955. After the longing melancholy of Twin Peaks, Mank and Les Mis?rables star Amanda Seyfried's monologue, a thunderclap introduces the piece's second movement, leading elegant strings, birdsong and piano to a coda of elegiac beauty.
